#Yvonne Adkins, 32, left her poorly three-month-old baby, Chantelle, in her rocker for nine hours, while she went up to her bedroom to drink whisky and have sex with a guy known only as Peter, whom she’d met at a bus stop two-weeks earlier...
#She woke up the next morning in her Stoke-on-Trent home to find her baby dead in the living room, wearing only a little tracksuit, no blanket or bed clothes....
#She pleaded guilty to child cruelty, and was given an 18-month prison sentence, suspended for two years. Judge David Fletcher spared her an immediate jail sentence – many wouldn’t have shown such mercy.....

#Peter had got up and left for work at 5am, while Adkins went back to sleep. When she eventually checked on the baby, she discovered that she wasn’t breathing, and called for an ambulance. Paramedics pronounced Chantelle dead on the scene at 8.05am...
#Adkins initially lied to the authorities, saying that Chantelle had been sleeping in a moses basket at the bottom of her bed, before eventually coming clean....
#But instead of serving time for the disgusting neglect of a baby desperate for the care of a loving mother, Adkins is now a free woman. Let’s hope she doesn’t do this all over again – because the judge will have some explaining to do...
